Antoine d'Agata, one of the most original and provocative voices in contemporary photography and a prominent member of Magnum Photos, is coming to Istanbul with his exhibition titled "Teorem." Featuring striking works on global violence, imperialism, and the human condition, this exhibition will run from October 3 to November 29, 2025, as the inaugural event of the city's new art center, Fotoğraf Fabrikası. The showcase comprises photography and video works produced across various conflict zones, intertwining a documentary approach with a poetic language to question the traumatic impacts of violence on society. Renowned worldwide for its brutal honesty, "Teorem" stands out as the artist's most comprehensive and deeply political statement to date. Through this profound project, exhibition curator Attila Durak aims to establish Istanbul as a vital hub for international art dialogue by promoting photography as a powerful tool to understand and transform the world.
Antoine d’Agata, one of the most original and provocative voices in contemporary world photography, is in Istanbul.
Consisting of striking works on global violence, imperialism, and the human condition by d’Agata, the radical visionary of Magnum Photos, “Teorem” will meet the audience between October 3 – November 29, 2025, as the opening exhibition of the new art center, Fotoğraf Fabrikası.
The exhibition, whose opening will also be attended by the artist, consists of photography and video works produced by d’Agata in conflict zones such as Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Iraq, Ukraine, Palestine, and Israel, where a documentary and poetic language intertwine.
“Teorem” not only documents violence as a phenomenon, but also questions the traumatic effects of this violence on individuals and communities, and the traces of the “silent war” of American imperialism. Inspired by Antonin Artaud’s words, “The grid is a terrible moment for sensibility and matter,” the artist translates the axioms, mechanisms, and equations of our age into a visual language.
D’Agata’s works have been exhibited in the world’s leading institutions, from MoMA PS1 in New York to the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and have received great acclaim from critics for their brutal honesty regarding the human condition. “Teorem” stands out as his most political and comprehensive work.
A new international art venue for Istanbul:
Attila Durak, one of the Founders of Fotoğraf Fabrikası and the exhibition curator, stated that they are excited to bring a new art venue to Istanbul, summarizing the mission of Fotoğraf Fabrikası as “supporting photography as a tool to understand and transform the world.”
Regarding the exhibition, Durak says: “Antoine d’Agata is not only a photographer but also the conscience of our age. We are very happy to host this figure, who pushes photography to the extremes as a means of expression and confrontation. ‘Teorem’ serves as a powerful political and philosophical statement on the human condition. This exhibition will make Istanbul a part of the international art dialogue.”
